New standards in training compensation?

There appears to be a trend among the top teams in Europe to pay former clubs far more than the FIFA training compensation system obliges them to pay. The fee for players until the age of 15 can normally not exceed more than 40,000 EUR according to FIFA regulations but nevertheless clubs are willing to pay former clubs a lot more. For a player like Nabil Touaiz who apparently is 15 years at this moment the normal fee would be 40,000. The media have reported that Manchester United will pay Valencia a (training) compensation of 300,000 EUR and possible up to 2 million in the event the player makes it to City's first team. Another spanish player chased by City is 15 year old Richard Dionkou. It's not unlikely that Mallorca will try to squeze out a better deal.

Apparently top clubs are willing to pay 'extra' in order to keep the maintain a working relationship with the former club and in order to keep the situation around the player stable. In Englang training compensation is not settled via a fixed scheme but first of all clubs have to try to reach an agreement. If no agreement is reached the fee is settled by the Professional Football Compensation Committee. In 28 April 2016 this committee awarded £6.5m training compensation to Burnley for Danny Ings who was 22 and out of contract when he signed with Liverpool. An amount more than 10 fold the FIFA TC in the event of an international transfer. In the light of such payment(s) the reported amount of £ 175,000 that Manchester City and Southend appear to have agreed upon for 13 year old Finley Burns is maybe not so crazy.

Fabregas: Football has become less about talent and more about 'running a lot'. Cesc Fabregas has declared that “talented” players are becoming increasingly preferred in the modern game, with fitter, faster and more powerful players being preferred across 90 minutes. “Today it’s more difficult for the more talented players to succeed,” he told Chelsea TV. “I don’t think my physical abilities are the best – I’m not the quickest, I’m not the strongest, I’m not the sharpest, so you have to be ahead of the game if a player like me wants to succeed in football." “To be a football player today... if you are very strong or you run a lot or stuff like that it’s easier. That’s why I try to get even better because football is growing in a way that before I don’t think it was. “Everyday you see less talent and more power and players running around.”

Does more money make you a better player?

Avram Grant the former Ghana coach seems to think so. "The salary of players in the Ghana Premier League is not good. With this kind of salary, you won’t get certain qualities from the players so government must do something about it,” Grant told Metro TV. Is the idea that a player becomes better or more talented when he earns more not totally ridiculous? Is the idea that the government should finance employees of privately owned companies not ridiculous?

If at all more government funding for football would become available in Ghana should it not be used for better pitches and facilities at grassroots level than for subsidizing private companies and with that the pockets of it's owners? Under Mr Grant management the Black Stars fell from place 34 to place 57 on the FIFA ranking. Could this have been prevented if the GhanaFA had paid him more?

Jean Deza has to pay... a lot! Jean Deza is in big trouble. The scandal player who just "disappeared" from PFC Levski Sofia for more than one month now will probably have to pay big damages. The club already claimed with FIFA for financial compensation. Deza who earned around 700 euro per minute played during his stay at Levski, the Peruvian striker was the most expensive Levski player with a monthly salary of 18,000 euro. Most likely the FIFA DRC will order the player to pay Levski an amount equal to the remaining value of his contract. His contract would have expired in June 2018. It is not uncommon that the FIFA DRC will also order the player to pay unamortized costs of commission and replacement costs. Walking out of a club without valid reasons that justify such behaviour is stupid if not very stupid. Deza appears to be a player underestimated the effects of such actions.
