February a slow month? Why do so many people always say the market is over after January? 1,555 international transfers took place last month which is considerable less than the 2,361 in February 2016, but not exactly quite. That is great news provided that the money does not disappear in the wrong pockets but is used efficiently to support grassroots football.

It is good news that Africa will be a good structured academy richer. More top clubs are support academies in Africa, Right to Dream and Wafa and Ghana have links with Manchester City respectively Red Bull Salzburg. It can only be encouraged that top team get involved in local academies in Africa. Hopefully with the arrival of more and more good academies in Africa the trafficking of kids will slow down.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Monday welcomed the decision of Barcelona FC of Spain to establish its first football academy in Africa in the state.
