“ After coming into the professional game late and making my Football League debut at
the age of 22, I was very raw and lacked professional experience. Throughout my
early playing career at Brentford and then Leyton Orient I experienced the highs and
lows that go hand in hand with professional football including finishing with 35 clean
sheets over two seasons but losing out twice in the League One play-off semi-finals.
With Norwich and then Aberdeen, although I didn’t play much first team football, I was
involved with two big clubs where I gained valuable experiences from a higher level
(Championship and SPL) and this has helped me become a more accomplished and
composed keeper.
With the two years I spent at Notts County I was able to put these experiences into
practice resulting in a total of 90 appearances (playing every game of the 2011/12
season) and in turn winning Player of the Year in my first season and FA Cup Player
of the Round the following year.
Five and a half seasons with Gillingham followed, winning the League Two title and
being voted into the PFA Divisional Team of the Season in the first year. Over the
course of my Gillingham career I played a major role in the club consolidating their
place in League One.
I became the 3rd highest appearance holder for a goalkeeper in Gillingham FC history,
a record that I am immensely proud of. Making this many appearances for one club
and being voted in the top 3 of the clubs Player of the Year every full season I was
there, winning in my second year, shows that I have put all my earlier experiences
together and built consistency and reliability into my game.
I joined a struggling Yeovil side in February 2018 and in the 5 games I played the team
accumulated 8 points, which was enough for the club to retain their Football League
status. As my contract came to an end at Yeovil I had been there for 2½ seasons.
Due to Covid-19 this season was curtailed at the point with the club sitting fourth in
the table on a real rich vein of form heading into the last 9 games of the season. The
season was resumed at the playoff stage and unfortunately we were eliminated in
the first game.
